We support a variety of Fair Trade organizations including In Vitro, La Luciernaga, Made in Honduras, Juan Pablo Segundo, and Siempre Sol all located in and around Honduras.
All of these organizations include and involve low-income families that support themselves through fabrication of products to sell in areas of tourism. These organizations help people overcome and deal with daily struggles such as domestic abuse and illnesses such as HIV. They also help to empower women so that they can care for their families and learn a useful skill at the same time greatly increasing their level of self esteem.
We focus on good quality, affordable and ecosustainable products.
Established in 1999, this candle making group is a project of the nonprofit women's organization Actions for Popular Development (ADP). The work of ADP includes a shelter for abused women and their children, a home for pregnant women and a micro lending program. La Luciernaga's workshop employs four women, two are former residents of the women's shelter.
In Vitro was created in 2000 to provide public impeccably-crafted, works of functional art. Using a lost industry building in a little mountain village we started with handmade paper production to give people back some work. Now we proudly train, employ and empower committed artisans from Honduras – providing them and their families a livelihood and a dignified way of life in harmony with their environment.
Made in Honduras is a group of over 100 craftspeople who make their wares with the tourist trade in mind. All the proceeds go directly back to the artist who makes each item sold. This group includes people from barrios and villages near Trujillo, and also indigenous people from La Mosquitia.
Women’s Sewing Cooperative in El Pital, Rio Cangrejal, Honduras. Rosario Lobo formed a women's organization which spearheaded community reconstruction. Recognizing a need to create economic opportunity for women, Rosario and others taught themselves how to sew, producing their first quilt in 1999. Our support offers the quilters themselves the gifts of self empowerment, educational opportunity, economic freedom and hope. The Hand Sewn items are quilted and sewn by the women in the coop and are the sole providers of their community.
SiempreSol products are made by HIV-positive patiens of the Siempre Unidos Clinics. Our employment program ensures a fair-trade wage for our workers and helps fund the clinic’s efforts in the HIV-positive community. Your support sends a message of hope to women and men of Honduras, allowing hem to receive the medical help they need while supporting their families.
